For Gurtam team GPS Tag for iOS and Android has become the first step into the world of software trackers. With more than 3 500 GPS Tag units on Wialon server center we consider the first attempt to be a success. Shortly after we ventured upon a new step in the development of tracking applications for smartphones and are ready to demonstrate WiaTag – the advanced application, based on the innovations brought to us by Android OS and developed with due regard to the comments and suggestions from GPS Tag users. At the moment the app is at stage of open testing and will soon be available for all users.

Advanced functionality

This review is designed for those, who is wondering what they get with WiaTag. As seen from the open testing, with this new product you get the best:

  • New binary server communications protocol for optimized traffic consumption.
  • Motion detection, data collection and location detection settings flexibility to prolong battery life with high quality of tracks preserved.
  • Customizable user profiles and administrator mode for task-specific configuration (driver, agent or child tracking).
  • Quick menu to send photos, locations and alarms in one click.
  • Remote application management.
  • “Manual” data uploading mode for total data control.

How it works

WiaTag is designed to work with satellite tracking platforms developed by Gurtam. The app mainly performs location detection function. It calls over a built-in GPS receiver or smartphone sensors, used by Google Fused, to obtain and process geodata and transmit it to the server.

Access to WiaTag requires a unit created in Wialon system. In cases when data security makes sense, there is an option to set authorization password. After you are successfully logged in, you can choose one of the pre-set user profiles (“Active”, “Standard” and “Lite”) and even create your own. A profile is a combination of data collection, uploading and motion detection settings that influences traffic and battery power consumption. The above means the extended pre-setting capabilities when compared to GPS Tag.

It is now simple to manage messages stored in the internal memory of your device – a “black box”. You can observe the quantity of messages available and send them manually in one packet with lesser data communication time. The function is especially important for those operating in roaming. WiaTag allows for remote app management by means of control commands from Wialon system. At the moment you can start or shutdown system, or even query snapshot from a specified camera. Even though there are still few simple commands available, the command list is being extended. Overall WiaTag interface is extremely user friendly and intuitive. You can enter power saving mode in one click, set pre-defined statuses (“occupied”, “free” or “unavailable”) or even create your own for privacy purposes, as well as send photos, locations or alarms from a quick menu. Settings screen is also subject to adjustments. This means you can choose items to be visible for the user.

At the moment the abovementioned WiaTag functions are available only for Android users. However the releaze of WiaTag for iOS is on the way and we expected it to come with some specific features. The results of open testing show that Gurtam team is up to release one of the best software trackers available. But it’s up to you to decide, if we came up to expectations.
